what mileage do you get combined and pulling? I got an 02 quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7 and got 10.6 avg pulling 2 sleds in an enclosed trailer 900 miles....ugh.....just wondering if'n the hemi would have gotten me any better. |

Nice, my dad's got the same truck, but a quad cab. His has the hemi, and I got the wheels spinnin at 45 the other day on a semi salty road (IMG:http://midwestatvers.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/scooter.gif) . W/o a trailer, driving it nicely, we can get 16 mpg. When I get a truck, I really hope I can afford a diesel though. But again, very nice truck, any plans on further mods?? I want my dad to get a supercharger haha

Jim,
The hemi is a great motor and will get the job done for pulling etc. My guess on mileage should be 13 or 14 towing a lighter trailer, or 12 with something heavier. If you are towing like 5000lbs, expect 10 or 11 mpg. The last few days I have been worried about gas costs...like many people have. I make an OK living, but when I start spending $60 to get to Badlands every weekend, or even more if I go farther...it gets tough to afford a lot of longer trips. A few years ago, even last year, I went on longer trips to ride..like little Egypt, and Taylorville. Both place over 3 hours for me...little egypt is 5 hours. With my bro's diesel getting 11 or even 10mpg's, the cost is tremendous on fuel alone. I won't do that this year. I will stick with Fox Valley. Wardy is doing a nice job with the track now. Its an hour or so for me. Right now diesel is way higher than gas, and looks to remain that way, so gas is the way to go for now unless you haul really heavy loads. I mean, an engine like a hemi, or any new truck has the balls to go with a heavy trailer. So, if you drop MPG towing on trips, at least you still get there in peace. With a diesel, it will cost more now for sure. But, diesel is the only way to go when you pull 6000lbs or more alot. Then you want that power for easy driving. This past weeknd I traded my 8x10 snomobile trailer in for something lighter and smaller but still carry two quads. I now have a Triton ATV 88, which is about 6'6 x 8"8 and will carry one quad facing straight, and two side by side. My truck can pull much more, but going over 70mph, the lighter the better, and I can even tow with a car now. This makes it more affordable and easier to handle the trailer in my yard etc. Anyway, Jim, I hope to ride with you again soon, it has been a few years almost. I am sure the new Ram will do the job well for you. I was very happy with my brothers Ram. Heck, I remember he had a 1994 blue 2500 magnum that pulled well also. The newer rams are far more comfortable, but that old one ran like a champ for nearly 200,000 miles for him. Lets hope the gas cost stay calm and we can ride more often. |

I love my new truck as far as MPG could be better but I am use to it I got 11mpg around town and about 14 on the highway with or without my trailer. I just put the new tires on last weekend and the puter on the truck says I am getting 10mpg around town have not gone anywhere to check highway mileage yet the new tires are BFgoodrich Mud TA. and they are a very heavy tire. The KC Daylighters are great at night but I now know why they are not street legal they light up at least a half mile in front of me. they are the 100 watt lights Long Range (longer, narrower beam; 200,000 candlepower). The next thing I want to do is get a Fiberglass Tonneau Cover. If anybody knows where there is a used one for sale for a long bed.
